In January, the Florida Department of Education will start a Literacy Leadership Professional Learning Series in partnership with the Florida Center for Reading Research (FCRR). The series was developed to help principals and other school-based leaders implement evidence-based and evidence-informed literacy practices in their schools and classrooms. Effective school leaders understand the importance of working collaboratively with teachers, coaches and other professionals in the school and community to create environments that effectively support literacy learning for all students.
These sessions are designed to support school leaders in building the capacity of teachers and coaches to implement evidence-based literacy practices to improve student learning and achievement. Each session includes an evidence-based or evidence-informed tool or resource that can be used immediately to support school-based leaders. Each 90-minute session is followed by 90 minutes of collaborative applied activities at the school site, for a total of approximately 24 hours of professional learning.
The Literacy Leadership Professional Learning Series is designed for elementary school principals and assistant principals of Reading Achievement Initiative for Scholastic Excellence (RAISE) schools. Those successfully completing the series will receive a $1,000.00 stipend. More information about receiving the stipend will be provided at the first convening.
Each participant’s hotel and travel costs will be covered. Meals and mileage can be reimbursed to the participant’s district upon request. Participants must be traveling over 50 miles one-way from home or the district office to be eligible for hotel accommodations for up to two nights.
The Literacy Leadership Professional Learning Series will begin in January 2025 and continue through April 2025. We are asking district reading contacts to share this information with RAISE schools for interested elementary school principals and/or assistant principals to participate.
The registration deadline is Friday, November 8, 2024. Registration is on a first-come, first-served basis. There are no specific allocation allotments per district.
